DELL Recovery Disk....

Thread Starter
A friend gave me a dell that they said did not work. It only has a bad hard drive though. But alas I do not have the recover disk.
Does anyone know where I can download one?
Or find another way around the problem?

(I am downloading Ubuntu atm, but I would like to have XP on it as well)

it is a dimension 4300... more info can be given if needed...

thanks for your help

Contact HP. They will probably send you one for a small charge if you can give them the product number etc.

Ya, you'll need to contact them and see if they even keep stuff that old.

I might be able to help you out. I've done many of these re-installs for friends where they don't have recovery discs. what i did was call Dell and they did that remote desktop stuff and downloaded the drivers. Although i've done a re install for a person with a Dell 4600 i'd imagine they might be the same in needs. I've put them all into one RAR for u to download. I'd look into the specs of both machines but they might be similar. If it doesn't work don't blame me

Dell doesn't do what HP does and make a recovery partition... I think that is an amazing idea... Much harder to break/lose then a CD/DVD.

If you have a friend with an xp disc you can load the OS & use the key from the sticker on PC for license. I recently used a Dell disc to get a Toshiba up & running. After OS install, you will have to hunt down the drivers from Dells website, get the network card drivers first via thumb drive then hookup to internet & start downloading & installing drivers. Use the device manager to tell you what you need to get drivers for.
