Random system stuttering - Page 2

I have had so many problems with iTunes stuttering during playback. Well it turns out that the culprit was DirectSound. Go into Quicktime (Control Panel) and turn Sound Out to WaveOut instead of DirectSound and voila, iTunes suddenly performs so much better!

Tried that a week ago. This is what my Quicktime prefs have looked like with the stuttering still occurring:

I'm thinking of RMAing the CPU back to Newegg to see if that fixes the problem.

Reinstalled and am slowly adding programs to see if it starts stuttering again. So far:

SP2
LAN Driver
Realtek HD Audio driver
8800GT driver
iTunes
mapped network servers
Firefox 3.0
Thunderbird 2.0.0.14
Flashgot
GetRight
vlc
Pidgin
UltraMon
AVG

all installed with no problems.

Oddly enough, I think SpeedFan might have been the cause of my problems. I started getting a little stuttering after installing more programs and closing SpeedFan stopped it.

-edit-

I found this page that addresses the issue from the programmer himself.

It seems that if you run the program with /NOSMARTSCAN command line parameter, it solves the problem.

Thanks for the help everyone.
