hey m8!
i have the same motherboard as you, but running a q9300.
im running a zalman reserator, water.
it is nothing to be afraid of, water is ok, and it is easyer to keep the noise down.
give it a try!

72c!!! That's way too high. Lower your bus to 415, and run the tests again. 72c is just too hot. I would stay under 65c.

Also don't use CoreTemp. Use RealTemp, it's better for 45nm CPU's (Q9xxx series, E8xxx series).

Wow...you may want to look into another type of cooling if you're going to run that high...the limit for your chip is 71.4 degrees. Watch your voltage as well, these two things will destroy your processor if you're not careful! Water cooling is not hard, though it's not cheap. There's nothing to be scared of if you do your research and you're careful. Here's a link to specs for your processor: http://processorfinder.intel.com/Det...px?sSpec=SLAWR

Package Type:LGA775
Manufacturing Technology:45 nm
Core Stepping:C1
CPUID String:10677h
Thermal Design Power:95W
Thermal Specification:71.4°C
VID Voltage Range:0.85V – 1.3625V

That's better, but still seems a bit high for only 3.4. If you don't plan on going higher, it should be ok. If you go higher, you'll probably need a better cpu cooler. You'll want to enable all 4 cores on OCCT too. Wow, I can't believe the different temps you're getting between core temp and real temp, that's a big difference...

that sucks about the vdrop my vid is 1.225. I only had to raise my vcore an additional 25 millivolts for 3.4. Im using the vendetta with it but im using Scythe Slipstream 110cfm fan instead of the one that came with it. Its working pretty well still in the breaking period for the AS5. The only thing I dont like is the push pins but you can always but bolt thru kit for it
