I'm not now, but I have been... For about 2 years, I played Socom 2 every day for atleast 3-4 hours a day (up to 8 on somedays). It starts becoming a problem when it gets in the way of school, work, or your relationships with those around you, and for me, it was school. I had to be to school a 7, and would many times stay up until 2-3 o'clock in the morning, which would lead to me not getting enough sleep, and doing horribly. Ended up having to get my GED because I was so behind.

Haven't had it that bad for a game since, but that proved to me that you can be addicted to a game. Of course, growing up and maturing can help you get over such things (I was like, 15-16 years old during this time... I'm 20 now). I don't take gaming nearly as serious as I used to.

frankly i don't think so... even though i play loads of games, i do other things and take pretty frequent breaks...

i don't like the feeling i get when i spend too long playing a game, so if i get it, i stop...

I used to be an internet addict, my friend did also

A game called City of Heroes [an MMORPG]

Have been wanting to make a thread like this - inernet addiction is real

It over stimulates the part of the brain that deals with being superior and winning, this part of the brain is more active in men than women - thus why the majority of gamers are men

Gaming regularly and for long periods of time creates these good feelings in the brain, and so the 'hit' wants to be felt again and again

We used to do some SERIOUS game streaks

Wake up @11am, log on by 11.30am
Game till 5am, go to bed
Wake up @11.am, repeat the above

We'd generally just eat snacks etc

If our parents asked us to say, feed the bunnies etc we would not do it at all, the game was the number 1 priority

During the summer holidays, our average game time a day was well over 14 HOURS A DAY

That is unnatural...

Now that i am older [Soon to be 18] i'm more in control of myself, we still game like hell - but in a more professional way, not a mad kid who can't stop playing

I used to play wow almost 20-30 hours a week but was it addiction? I don't think so. I mean it gave me some way to use my free time that would have otherwise be wasted on some social networking site or spending $100 a night to get "smashed".

Addiction has inherently negative intones. Smoking is an addiction because it harms your body. I don't see how gaming can be portrayed in a similar fashion.
