Low SLI 8800GT 3dmark score

Thread Starter
I just got a new 8800GT in the mail today, and installation went mostly without a hitch. Did a quick 3d mark test, and its a very very low 12272. Isnt this very low for my system? (see sig), seeing as with 1 card overclocked I can hit 11.5k. Both cards are there, the drivers are installed, the SLI bridge is on, SLI is enabled, ive tried every SLI performance mode in the drivers, and i still get this low score. I cant see any bottle neck in my system that would hinder scores this much. I dont tihink its caused by my mobos 8x PCIE ports, but I may be wrong. Whats going on?

FWIW, I have tested both cards individiually and they got 11k+ at stock speeds. I did some googleing, and all i can think is that my CPU is a bottleneck? Normal score seems to be around 15k for most people with similar setups
I got the following scores
3DMark Score:12272
SM2.0 Score: 5259
HDR SM3: 6739
CPU: 2474

I had a similar problem/scores with my 3870's and I may be wrong but I think the problem is the drivers working properly with your CPU. i noticed at certain times of the test mainly when physics were involved the FPS would Freeze up and slow down to maybe 15 rather then 100fps. I'm not 100% sure the difference between quad and dual core cpu scores but i get 4500ish (Cpu score) with my Q6600 @ 3ghz and when I first had the problem it was like 2000ish. I fixed the problem by downgrading the drivers (8.3 to 8.2 at the time) and after that ended up getting 15300 rather then 12000ish. I would try some different driver versions if it was me.

Good Luck!

i personaly would believe it to be my cpu, and that 8x pcie slot. the 8x being your worst culprit. try installing just one card on that slot see the performance you get. i may be wrong but if you really want to benefit get dual 16x pcie slot mobo. or sli is a waste. once again i can be wrong

try installing just one card on 8x see the score you get im curious

I don't think his slot would disadvantage that much. I have a P35 and it doesn't kill my crossfire. Sure it helps...but i don't think it would limit two 8800GT's to 12k.

Well, I have revealed that it is a case of a serious CPU bottleneck. I did a quick run of 3dmark 03 which is gpu dependent and got 53k, over 38 on 1 card. Yes, I know pointless results, but it shows that the reason for such little gain in 06 is due to the CPU. Therefore, I will go to the BIOS and take it to 3.2 and run again, and I should see significant changes.

Also, AFAIK, the 8x slot woulndt do this, especially not to 8800GT

For good 3dmark scores try 169 omega drivers....

Id have to say its a combo of your cpu and the fact that its 8x X 8x in SLI, not 16x X 16x, but it still seems kinda low.

I get 17429 with 8800gt's and a Q6600

go into nvidia cntrl panel and make sure "SLI Performance mode" is set to "Force Split Frame Rendering" and set everything to "Application Controlled"

and finally if no improvements, try it with a single card in.

As said in the first post....
"ive tried every SLI performance mode"
"FWIW, I have tested both cards individiually and they got 11k+ at stock speeds"

Ive played around on various games, and there is definately a LOT more performance there. I mean lots. Crysis now runs 30+fps at very high and 4x aa@1440x900, when it struggled to run medium@2xaa. Pro street now runs max settings@40-60fps. Quake 4 is, well, over the 200 mark somewhere... It only seems to be in 3dmark06 where it really struggles. I tried overclocking my CPU, and even after upping the vcore to 1.4v, it was getting BSOD loading windows at 3.2. I think my PSU is really running at the edge, so I will keep it how it is. New PSU should come in about a week, so I should be able to get the cpu up to 3.5.
