yep familiar with the CF and SLI thing. Cant have both on one board. Which is why im currently checking the reviews of 780i by xfx and the rampage formula(ASUS) or DQ6(Gigabyte). If there's even a little headache with 780i, i'm going for rampage or dq6. Last board afriend bought was the 680iLT SLi and it's been nothing but trouble. Doesnt boot properly and then all of a sudden boots up when it feels like it!

The 780i is basically the same thing as the 680i

780i=680i+nf200+minor rev. I still think the X38-DS4 is one the best OCers at that price range.

read reviews on the 780i xfx and it has some serious heat issues. I'll prolly go with the dq6 or rampage formula. 780i is out. Later when i have the cash, i'll splurge it on a crossfire setup

If you're going WC. Just watercool the northbridge on the 780i.
or go EVGA 750i FTW edition. It has 16x 16x SLi aswell as it's cold and OC very good. Read about it.

don't go with xfx, their motherboards are a pain...had to rma two before i switched to an asus.

I too am looking for a new motherboard with the same prerequisites.

Have you looked at/considered any DFI lanparty boards? I'm currently about to spend ~$270 on this one right here.

do you have a hard and set budget?

The asus striker II I believe would be my 780i, or maybe is 790i, board of choice, but i highly suggest the intel chipset board over the nvidia...haven't had much luck with nvidia in general unfortunately...

Last thing: My P5E is pretty beast -- 45nm support, ddr3 support (along with ddr2), dual x16 lanes, stable OCer (xeon Q6600 equivalent @ 3.4, and thats not really even pushing it, and i've seen people get lower clocked xeons to over 4ghz).

Of course, the P5E is the "lower" end of the asus X38 series lineup. You can definitely get something more expensive, but its up to you.
