Hey girls and boys

Thread Starter
Hi there ( are there any other girls on here )

New to the forum, living in London, I'm a secret nerdy girl who is in need of a little help i reckon.

I have this rig, collmaster cosmos case, Gigabyte s-series motherboard (without RAID ) OCZ reaper 800mhz, asus 8500gt fanless graphics card, PCTV card 1100 omething or other, this is topped off with a Q 9450 and ninja tower cooler and a LG HDDVD/Bluray burner 1x750GB Samsung HD 1x500GB Samsung HB, 1xMaxtor 160GB HD ( Operating system and installs only )

Im running a copy of MCE 2005 service packed up to the eyeballs and i am open to advice about operating systems ,as i dont have a clue, but i dont mind changing either, as long as i can run 3D max , adobe suite, do my movies ( Not Those Movies !! tut tut really!! in the same way as my movies 2 does.

Any takers or advice on how to push this on air without blowing it up would be much greatly recieved.

If the motherboard doesn't go down to well i have a spare ASUS P5K-E WiFi sat on the shelf

Really guys you all know more than me, i want to learn learn something please help

i look forward to it

Grace

xx

You should be good with Windows Vista (any versions you want except Home Basic, it's useless).
As for overclocking, you should push that Q9450 far enough, but remember one thing, 45nm stays cool and is power efficient, BUT it doesn't take too much voltage, 1.36v is the recommended maximum, I would never go over 1.4v, because what happens is that the CPU deteriorates quickly and faster the higher the voltage goes above manufacturer's recommendations, in the end, your CPU won't be stable anymore and if you're lucky it will remain stable at stock. Many people were hitting 4.2GHz on 45nm CPUs and are now at 3.6GHz and unable to go any higher due to voltage deteriorating their CPU.
Hope that helps and welcome here

Welcome to OCN! One thing that will help us help you is to go to your userCP and edit system, this will show us what hardware you are working with.

I'm not familiar with MCE 2005 but would reccomend xp pro SP2 at least as an OS.

it's because you have C1E and speedstep enabled, which will throttle the cpu down when not doing intensive work. If you put a load onto it, it will jump up to x8. These are options which most people who overclock disable in bios as they interfere with overclocking.

there are several guides to intel overclocking under the Intel CPU/Motherboards/General sections.

You should be able to change the multiplier, it can be called FSB Multiplier, CMOS Ratio... if you don't see any of it, make sure that there isn't a key to press to make advanced features appear. But there must be an error in the reading of your BIOS because you wouldn't be running at 2.6GHz if you were on a 7x multiplier. So I wouldn't worry too much about the multiplier for now except if you have Speedstep or C1E enabled (just disable them). Also, check your CPU VID with CoreTemp and make sure that the VID matches your vCore in the BIOS (it most like won't match, so just adjust the vCore to the VID and that would be your starting point to OC).

Hullo.
I'm sure you should get a fairly decent overclock. Looks like a nice media PC there. Vista home premium would be your best option (I would say 64-bit is the future but I don't know if 64-bit drivers are available for yor TV card - so you might want to check first)
