That motherboard is useless on this build... You don't get a SLI board unless you plan on going SLI.

great. I didnt even realize that the ddr1000 ram got so cheap.

I will make the change for that video card on my other thread as well.

Things not to forget:
THe powersupply: it is the most important part in the rig. Dont skimp on it. Trusted Brands: Corsair, Silverstone, PC P&C, Antec, Seasonic

SLI+ Resolutions: You only need it at high resolutions, so plan on getting a 22in and then going SLI later.

Case: The coolermaster Centreon 5 is as great case. Look into it.

An 8800GT can handle all DX9 games, and most DX10 games maxed at 1680x1050... You don't need SLI if you're going to be gaming anymore.

Processor :
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz -looks good

Motherboard :
Which shall I choose? At first, I wanted to go for ASUS P5N-D but then I noticed that the 2 PCI-e slots are very close together, which isn't good for SLi, especially the hot temperature here. -for sli grab a 750i ftw and for crossfire grab one of the new p45's

HDD :
Seagate 32MB SATA 2 500GB -good choice

RAM :
2 x 1GB DDR2 Kingston PC800 ValueRAM go with g.skill 1000 2x2 or dominator 1066 2x2 with the fan.

Graphic Card :
ASUS GeForce 8800GT 512MB PCI-e (BIG FAN) -if its in your budget i would go with a evga 8800gts

Monitor :
Samsung 743NX (1280 x 1024) -not sure what monitor that is but any samsung thats 22" and has 2 ms response is good.

Dont forget to buy a power supply lawls go for a 750w corsair on buy.com its only 100 bucks right now a real steal.

Thread Starter
Thanks for all the suggestions. However, I wish to know whether SLi is needed on a 17" monitor (1280 x 1024)? Will I get much increase in performance with SLi? (roughly how many % or FPS).

Besides, is Gigabyte's motherboard reliable? (I am planning to use that at least for 4-5 years) I have been using ASUS since long time ago and I have more confidence with it (I had 1 ASUS notebook which fell from a table and had cracks appearing on the surface but it still works, so I am pretty satisfied and trust that brand).

@ mortimersnerd :
For your information, the motherboard that you have suggested to me is not PCI-e 2.0.

Right now, I will use the specs that I mentioned at the first post (still haven't choose a motherboard yet). I wanted to get Cooler Master CM-690 casing, is that good? (it is quite cheap and have good airflow. Most importantly, I'm 'limited' with the budget).

Thanks.

the case as many suggest is of good quality (which i will order by end of this month btw)
and as for 17in... i doubt that SLI will do any noticeable boost in performance with a 17in screen, unless you want to upgrade your monitor anytime soon... i believe a 9600GT or 8800GT is sufficient for now...

as for gigabyte motherboard... can't promise anything but i have no problem with mine after 3 months of usage 24/7... so i guess it's worth investing in a gigabyte board
