That really depends on your setup. If you have an X38/X48 board with water cooling, 4870 Crossfire is the way to go. You can have single GPU water blocks, and they tend to OC higher with separate PCBs....more heat dissipation for PCB components, etc.

man 199 is the exact amoount i paid for my 3850, good thing i'm selling it $220 to my friend next week

so how will the performance of the 4850 to the 4870 and 4850 crossfire differ? i hope we can find out soon.
