my rig has died..... help!!!!!

Thread Starter
ok... hi OCNers i am currently transmitting from my baby rig (slow assed p4 willy)

my sig rig has just up & died .....last night i was surfing the web when the screen went black for a second & then firefox shut down.... i knew then summink was up ...
so i let it sit for a while on desktop (btw i had lost Aero also)
i then attempt to open FF again & receive a message stating ''certain parts of this program are missing''... ok so as i close this message down the rig hits me with a BSOD (flashed passed could not catch the code)

so i reboot .......no post
so then i unplug it from the wall leave it 10mins & then try again ...no post
now im pissed off my board had ''CPR'' which allows the bios to reset in the event of a problem. its always worked so there is a serious problem here...??

i then (for the first time since having this board) manually reset the CMOS
....& still no post
i have stripped the ram out & tried other stuff ...no go
i removed the HDD & optical drives ....no go

so my question is what would cause it to not even post its obviously not software related ..im thinking the board may be dead ...what a total ball ache

so before i completely strip my rig for RMA is there anything else i have missed

my poor rig

mtbiker ....it cant be the HDD the machine wont post even with the HDD unplugged

low strife.... PSU is not dead all fans & HDD spin up ......though it may be dying & not providing enough power for post.....

if the CPU fails due to heavy OCing im sure the rig would still post & state a CPU problem....can someone confirm

Looks like the mobo to me. But before you dish out some cash to buy a new one, also try troubleshooting your PSU.

Edit: In reply to your latest post.

Most mobos just reset your CPU and everything back to factory defaults if you OC too high. Those ASUS mobos are pretty good at resetting themselves. But then again, usually there's a screen that pops up saying "CPU failure" with a "F1 to go into setup", "F2 to restore factory defaults" or something like that.

I'm guessing it's your PSU going. COLORSIT isn't exactly known to make the best PSUs.

yeah it would post with it but No sometimes when CPU's die there is no boot up at all. Just a black screen. Happened to a new rig my friend just built, switched the CPU w/ his older one and it booted right back up.

Just to let you know that when I bought my brothers components and put them all together. His PC would BSOD on desktop, wouldn't stay on for over 5minutes maximum. Then I decided to replace his PSU and it all worked fine. So don't rule it out even though everything powers up

Next thing is when I put him a sound card in before, it just wouldn't post. All fans spun and everything powered on, but no post. Turned out it was the mobo

So yes, check the PSU first. It could be either of the two, or a completely different issue. The joys of fault finding
