Thermalright IFX-14 w/o backside heatsink?

I just installed this heatsink w/o the backside cooler cuz my case is a bottom mounted psu design. will I still get as good cooling without it? kinda seems like I'm only using 1/2 of the cooler I bought, know what i mean? guy who sold it to me said the backside cooler was a 'bonus' in the pkg. lol.

The backside takes off maybe 1C, it is in no way necessary. However, how does a bottom-mounted PSU design stop you from using it? I got the PSU on the bottom, and I have about 7cm clearance from the mobo to the top of the case.

the placement of the cpu on the p5n-d is really close to the edge preventing the required 70mm clearance. If i had a top mounted psu case, the backside heatsink would've fit in beside it.
[edit]added -psu
i noticed the base had a clearcoat of something on it & was not evenly spread on one edge. meaning what some reviews complained about its uneven base. I guess i will deal with it as soon as i can.
