Looking For a Large Display... - Page 2

I can't speak to that particular monitor, but 30" is a good choice if you're going to be using it as a monitor. It's hard to use much bigger and not have to sit several feet from the screen.
Everything I've read about the 4870 says it will be a 256-bit bus...basically a 4850 with higher clocks and GDDR5 instead of GDDR3. At that resolution, you'll want a 4870X2 or 280, possibly in CF/SLI depending on what you play.

I have 3870s in crossfire right now, but with my wireless internet card (which I have to have, bleh) I don't have room for my soundcard, due to the 3870s covering up a pci slot. So I'm trying to go with a single card solution that will still be powerful enough to rock my socks in games.

The 512bit memory of the GTX280 is really attractive...but the price tag just isn't there. With a huge resolution like this, I am really thinking that efficient memory is an important factor for my situation.

But my god, does the GTX280 really have to be almost 700$???? Really NVidia?!

you could search around the for sale forums and find a 30" monitor. That's what I did.

Paid 700 after shipping plus traded my 19" monitor. I have another friend that paid 700 for his locally. Just make them an offer, see what they say. I'm sure you could find somebody to sell you one within your budget. With a resolution of 2560 x 1600 compared to 1080p's 1920 x 1080, it'll give you a lot more room to work with. Although, I'm still trying to figure out if you can connect stuff via a hdmi to dual link dvi cable. Guess I'll find out in a couple weeks.

I think I'm going to take my chances with the 4870. Been reading around and my understanding is that the high clock speeds of the gddr5 (sort of) makes up for the lack of bandwidth. That and the fact that it should be around half the price of the GTX280.
