MXM is limited depending on the manufacturer of the laptop and the model of it, other than that, it's just a little outdated, but I'd use it.

This just seems more convenient.

Desktop level graphics are not going to be a huge hit in the laptop sector because of the power they use and the heat they put out. Anything over about 50w is very hard to cool and power inside of a laptop.
MXM is external so.... power consumption and heat not a big deal. Thats the beauty of it. Use your mobile 3870 or 780G integrated while on battery. Then hook up CrossfireX 3870s or something similar into MXM and get total power.
