[VMware] NotFred's Folding w/USB stick - Page 3

Thanks to all of you that PM'ed me. I'm glad it's working well for you. I told you it was easy! NotFreds is very fast and reliable. You'll probably notice faster times. Both Gibson and Cog use it too. If you have any questions, feel free to post them in this thread and I'll be happy answer them as soon as I possibly can.

Nice guide, seems fairly straight forward, rep+

So is there much of a performance increase?

Thanks.

And Matt, you will definitely notice an increase over WinSMP. The notfred's is just a tad slower than ubuntu, but much faster than WinSMP.

It's always nice to know that people appreciate what you do

And Matt, you will definitely notice an increase over WinSMP. Thanks for the rep. Another thing is that it's portable. The USB flash drive can be taken to work, and you can fold there too.

Thanks guys. It's nice to know people appreciate what you do
Nice organized guide you have there Jade

Looks a lot better than before

Keep it up

Jade, any idea how this works with Vista? Same setup?
I really like the notfreds usb smp I was using before I started GPU, and it was very simple once going.

Also, in the code, there is a "memsize="512"" line, is that the size of the USB drive or just what the vm uses?

Try using VMware player 2.0.5. Let me know how that works, or PM me. Thanks.

EDIT: If I remember right. It often will give an error after the setting up instance 1. But it's still folding. Check it with the browser and it should show that it's folding. The reason being is that NotFred didn't remove the code about backing up to hard drive. It's backing up to the USB Stick, so it gives that error. But I think it's still folding. Good luck.

Your machine isnt detecting a USB stick properly, re download the ISO and make sure the "Backup interval" is set to 0.

Also make sure that when you exit your VMware Player that it is set to suspend the VM and not power it off as it will not save any data.

Found something! instead of using regedit to find vid and pid, go to device manager, go to disk drives, double click flash drive, go to details, scroll to parent, and wapow there that same number thing.
Edit: tested in Win 7 only
