Serious problems with the Scythe Infinity

Thread Starter
Hi there, im new to the forums and here to get some help.

I just bought the scythe infinity and after the annihilation of my hands it was installed on my Q6600 (2.4GHZ Stock), P35-DS3L inside a CM690 case.

before the infinity I had a freezer 7 pro, and my temps werent so good.
55-56 idle, 60+- load.

now with the infinity I was hoping to see a significent drop in temps
sadly when i cheked them out they were on 60-68 IDLE!!
on load it can get to 75-78.

I cheked countless times for mistakes, the thermal paste is good (AS5), the clips are tight and solid, and the fan is working perfectly.

someone told me the problem could be a cause of insufficient airflow, or the actual size of the CM690.
though I have 6 fans in my case with the best possible airflow I can get.

Im tottaly clueless right now, I tried almost everything and the temps are horrible.

I really hope someone here can help,
Thank you.

It's the new fad, actually it's what Arctic Silver recommends.
The weight of the HS spreads the paste over the core areas, that's about what I use, maybe a tad less.

Did you mount the heatsink tightly enough? If you didn't there might not be enough pressure to the CPU? Is the fan plugged in? I have the same case with the same infinity and processor and I'm getting 34 idle at 3.2GHz.

It's possibly a faulty sensor...try a probe, probaly not though but worth a try.

Wait...do you mean you put a dot of AS5 on it, then spread it with a credit card....THEN put the heatsink on it? Well thats your problem right there. You have to do the line, then put the cooler on, then turn it around a little making sure it does not break contact otherwise you might have created tiny air bubbles.
