AMD 9850 BE 3.2 Ghz on AIR!!!! - Page 2

Thread Starter
OK so I got it to boot up at 3.3 but it is NOT stable. Stress tests poops all over it. Gonna keep tinkering until maybe I can get it stable...

more here then just temp pictures .

if it don't come here it is in my profile

3.2 on 1.392 voltage a load of crap same as that 3.7 Hz one CPU clock at 212 for the 9850 it maxes out at 210 and how long did these run for . First thing I did is see what CPU clock head room the 9850 gets and it is no much may get u up to the equivalent to 1 more multiplier but that would be it, I have check this on water too.

It will run on water at 3.2 easily but the voltage is got to be around 4.92 to 5.02 for this to work load temp was about 35 tried it every way with multiplier and the bus speed and at the end both together and could not get it past 3.2 and have it past all stability tests. That was with 2 pumps 4 rads water temp was at 19 idle 26 load CPU was at 22 idle AMD 29- 32 it jumped up and down and all auto cool in bios was shut off.
This was done on 2 different board the ASUS 790 and gigabyte 790 and it was a little different tweaking between the 2 but results where roughly the same .I spent 4 nights in a role up doing this trying to touch that 3.7 mark made it there but crashed in seconds temp time of crash 47 c .

We believe they opened up the multiplier but locked the bus clock. we found the more you use the multiplier the low the bus clock with both CPU and HTT .We also found the SB speed spectrum does help but not really to sure how . It is a little more stable enabled then disable and we found between the setting sometimes it would turn off or to disable Safety feature? We are not sure.

Any one thinks they got this over 3.2 show me the video or a least a screen shot with real prof not just CPUZ give me screen shots of 3D mark or something ,you do know that print screen button use it and copy to paint under edit .

Oh also AMD over drive has still yet a few bugs it will not detected proper voltage if you set it in bios . It will show 1.3 no matter what it is set at in bios . When you change it in OD it will just add to your bios setting then and you will find it will be what you have in bios + what is set in AMD OD . We had a hell of a time with this because we did use OD to check our settings before we put them in the bios so we could fully test it. OD is good though we found , If it locks up hit restart button and blammo back to normal or what ever you had set in bios./

I'm not really saying they are laing but it is hear say until you see real prof and CPUZ is not even close look in my profile pics now that is prof

By the way the price of this was 1 dead 9850 and a dead pare of ram sticks rated for 1200 MHz @ 2.5v. We did try some old school clocking we down clock ram to 800 and up the bus bad choice LOL the good out come of all this is that we manage to keep one 9850 alive and it now is running on air @ 3.001 ghz voltage 1.504 volts will try to take voltage down to see if it can go down but we are faithful that is it's sweet spot because I can run 3.2 on that with air but temps spike when under heavy loads it does past all tests ,running Thermalright 120 ultra and there isn't much cooler then that and yes with 2 fans on it 1 bottom 1 top of heat seek whole time case temp didn't go above 35c with air cooled antec 900 with all fans maxed ,by the way it sounds cool like it is going to fly.

If you put the speed of your CPU why not put voltage to. It will help people judge and help them not to go over board isn't that why we are here is to help each other.
Had to down clock MP to 14.5 @2.9GHz and up bus to 206MHz running @ 2.99 and this is as stable as I saw the 9850 .It even plays COD4 with no hitches .
I like using COD4 even though it uses 2 cores it uses them to the max so much that the other 2 will kick in a bit and out which stresses ever thing . I going to make a thread and i will go over everything I did good and bad .I'm going to put my setting beside my CPU from now on I hate to see someone kill a CPU and knowing that if i would of post my full settings like voltage and all that might of help them not to do that would make me feel better.

I am a true Gamer always looking for that little bit of advantage and thats is why I over clock. Not to see how high i can get a CPU before it caves. I rather look at smooth frame rates then at a dead CPU .Yes I already have a dead 9850 but it was free so we decided to water it up and went for that 3.7 or higher, couple of posts back in this thread. 4.2 Ghz before it died. Up voltage to compsate but foorgot about OD adding to bios voltage it fried along with ram up it's voltage to and we were so close to getting it stable too. So you know 3.3 to 4.2 never stable but would boot to windows. as long as you didn't do anything it would be ok . Got amd od started but to do a screen shot it froze.
from what we have seen there is some kind of thermal threshold on the CPU.
if it idles at 50 we couldn't go above 55(crashed as Soon as it hit the mark! every time
if it idled below 50 it would go above 55

Weird though i have found 1.4 gave me higher temps then 1.424 in CPU voltage 1.4 idle @ 41
1.424 idle @ 38 even 1.436 was lower @39 Found this on both water and air Also 1.392 did the same but not as high and managed to keep it under the 50c.

Any one know what the actual SB speed Spectrum does that is on the GIG DQ6 in bios need to press 2 keys to get to it and it is in the manual but not out in the open. The place is called advance chipset settings there is HTT (look's like Threshold settings) stuff there and SB speed spectrum.
what ever it does it decrease temps by 2c and it makes high settings more stable.

Amd Overdrive is good tool but still a little buggy won't detect voltage setting if change in bios and will add to bios number what ever you put up to in AMD OD for instance set bios 1.392 and in AMD up it to 1.4 actual voltage was1.796 so beware of that. Other flaws ARE ,don't have anything else running like anti virus or even firewall it will lock up. Don't have CD in CD ROM it will also lock up sometimes and even reboot computer. I ran 2.10 but I have found 2.017 was a little less buggy but older. get it at guru3d.com

Zig Zag....your posts are giving me a headache. Could you try using some puctuation, proper spelling, and maybe a paragraph style? I gave up trying to read your posts after what I thought was the first sentence.

To the OP:
Great job on the Phenom. I'm glad to see that AMD's not dead like all the Intel Fanboys will have you think. I'm not a fanboy mind you...I know Intel is the best out there, but when you've already got an AM2+ mobo...why not go Phenom?

I didn't use it at a stock speed for very long. I ran it for about 3 days but it was amazingly fast then, and OMGEEZ fast now. For anyone that wants a quad core but doesn't want to pay out the ass I would go for it. IMHO.

p.s. I don't give 10's. maybe a 9.5, but there's always room to improve imo, .
Haha thanks. So those 4 pipelines helop out.

I get so excited some times this stuff does give me a woody so most of what i type is free flow.
I will try to proof read better. and do spell check
