3870 blu-ray lagging?

Thread Starter
Hello all, i just recently built my system, everything is working fine except when i play Blu ray movies on PowerDvd with "hardware acceleration enabled" the video lags but when i disable it, it works okay.

Wouldn't the 3870 do a better job processing the video then the CPU as it supports HDDVD and Blu Ray?

anyone else have this issue?

I'm not sure. In theory it should handle the de-coding with ease, but I'm not sure why it's running fine with it enabled.

Anyone else?

could it be another faulty card? I've already replaced it once after the first one died within a week

If it plays games, it should be fine. I don't know why it's not playing the movies correctly though.

Any other ideas?

well it does play games but a few minutes through them, it restarts the system and fails to boot playing the VGA error beeps. After a few minutes though, its able to boot up again.
The problem is, I dont get any error messages so I dont know whats going on.
I'm thinking its probably the PSU cutting the power down, mine has 4 12v rails with 18 amps each.

btw, thanks for the quick reply.

Hardware acceleration, is this for audio?

Vista does not support hardware accelerated audio, it uses the CPU to generate the effects etc...

3870 should have no problem. Heck a 3470 can play Blue-ray with no problem. It might be drivers or heat problem.

no, I'm not overclocking it

so, if a 3470 can play Blu ray then 3870 should be able to play it flawlessly.
I'm starting to think its a temp problem.
On load the temps are around 68 - 70 C. Does anyone know if thats too high?
