however the algorithm you described for checking is not efficient at all. believe me if games were made like that warcraft III would be like crysis.

Lol, thats true man. But you gotta understand I am still a beginner in c++. This was my first semester doing this language, and probably will never touch this again. This was barely 3 months of basic c++. Anyways, I just wanted to post my final project in public so I can get some comments and people can highlight my weak spots because I want to carry using c++, its more of an interest to me.

The algorithm used for random placement of ships in battleships is a good one to brush up on algorithm skills. It's not a question of this program or c++, its a very generalized algorithm. Rather than randomly placing and then checking, it would be incredibly more efficient to determine what places are invalid and randomly place within those bounds, since you know invalid placements at any given time. It's thinking about things like that that will help you learn something and become a better programmer.
