x1800xt overclocked but average fps not that high

Thread Starter
Hello all,

I overclocked my x1800xt with ATITool 0.25 Beta 14 from 600/700 to 700/850but it's only giving me these results :

Crysis Timedemo (GPU Benchmark)
Settings : Don't know but it's the same settings for both
600/700 --- 38fps average

700/850 --- 42fps average

Fear Timedemo
Settings : Maximum - 1280x960
600/700 --- 48fps average

Maximum - 1280x960
Settings :
700/850 --- 55fps average

Is it normal I'm only getting 4 fps difference for Crysis and 7fps for Fear?
It doesn't seem like good performances for such high overclocking

In ATITool,
VGPU is 1.550
MVDDC is 2.105
MVDDQ is 2.105

Waiting for anybody's input.
Thanks

Well it is an three year old video card, that's still a good performance boost from overclocking.

you have a mid range card. are you on stock cooling? id say get some better cooling and push your core more

What did u expect in crysis 20fps increase. 4 fps is really good for crysis in my opinion.

Thanks for your quick replies.

If you all say those are good results for my overclocking then it's good to know I'm on the right track. I would have liked a 10fps increase in any of those 2 games but like you say it's an old card.

Is it worth it to try a better cooling solution? Can I really push my card much more if I do?

I read Arctic Cooling Accelero S2 and Zalman VF900-CU are good solutions.
Which one is best?
Do you know of something better for around the same price range?

Thanks a lot for the input.

Overclocking an old card tends to only make a big difference with older games or perhaps those that are better coded too

Okay does that mean that I shouldn't get a better cooling solution?

How much more overclocking can I get with Arctic Cooling Accelero S2 or Zalman VF900-CU ?

Which one is better?

Thanks

Have you thought about an upgrade? That card is aging and you might benefit well from an upgrade.
