You forget the shader cores are unlocked now, and are much faster than the core. It also has double the TMUs.

Expect the HD4870 to start out at 300, then drop to 240ish when the GDDR5 version comes out.

Well considering that a 4850 is faster than a 9800GTX, I think that means its faster than an 8800GT.

I think he's talking about priceerformance, eg before the 8800 GT was a super cheap 8800 gtx, and now theres something (cheaper?) and far far better.
If not cheaper then at a similar price (im not too knowledgable about the US prices)

Wow, $199 is a great starting price. What did the 8800GT release at? I am really surprised that they can come out with a card that performas as well as this for so cheap. These should be monsters when in CF and OCed. Especially for $400. I can't wait to see what the 4870 can do. If it is close to the $275-$300 mark, it may be my next card.

each shader processor does 2 flops, so it takes a 625 mhz core to get 1 teraflop

I will be a happy owned soon for one of these cards, and don't tell me it will bottleneck my build, I am rebuilding soon so no bottleneck for me in my sig rig
