Overclocking my 8800gt

post #1 of 11
Thread Starter
well i have been working on it, tring to get every last ounce of performance from it without volt modding.
right now i have it at 760/1763/1050.

(ITS STABLE FOR 10 MIN HERE BUT I CAN RUN 3DMARK @ MAYBE 770 CORE)

i\\I had a few questions tho. First is my mem, it can go all the way to 1100 without artifacts but only for 3 mins. I set it at 1050 because someone told be it would hurt my memory if i set it over 1000 is this true? second i have unlocked my sharers because without any more volts they are stuck at 1760,how much performance could i gain if i locked them and volt moded ?

You would get around 1-2 frames in games.....and the memory over 1000....yes it cuts your cards lifetime...

when it is stable for 10mins in ATITool are you actually watching for artifacts? If there is a single yellow dot it means your 8800GT will hit problems later down the road.

It depends on temps and how lucky your 8800GT is for your volt-mod. I have mine at 725/1085 and it is perfectly fine although I'm going to do a bit more research on the 1000 memory clock speed limit thing. If playing graphically intense games (No 3dmark06 isnt graphically intense... but 3dmark vantage is! ) gives crashes or artefacts then you are either overheating or overclocked too high.

I am assuming you have the stock 8800GT cooler? You could perhaps get 770/1920/1000 depending how worn out your card is. A good website for volt-modding is;
http://iax-tech.com/video/8800gt/8800gt01.htm
Honestly I don't think volt-modding is that worth it, I have 3rd party cooling on my 8800GT and I have been able to get mine 725/1085 and its still at 55C load, there might be 200-500 more 3dmark06 points probably.

Hope I helped.

Well then you would yield MUCH better results than the stock cooler! 800core a bit too extreme?!?! I'm not overclocking mine much further because I plan to sell mine in the future and get the GTX280 (Not having TRISLI upgradability on my board is annoying!)

Yep thats a pretty safe idea. If you have the cash you could probably splash out for Sli and yield better results although I'm not too sure at your resolution which I assume is 1280x1024.

Dam. I cant get 760 core with 100% stability on mine. Just curious is your ATITool Artefacts scanning set to detects most artefacts? (in the settings somewhere).

Do you play a lot of intensive games? All the games (except Crysis) that I play right now can be maxed with my 8800GT @ stock speeds at 1280x1024. If you play Crysis that will probably where the most noticeable improvements will be

The last map on the ship is VERY laggy, it is more intense than any of the other missions. Then you would probably get a noticeable increase in performance
