That's not an option in his bios.

You can either set timings by SPD, or set them all manually

One of the reasons i stopped using it as my main mobo...you just cannot tweak it well at all.

Why are you running 8x multi?

That's a bad idea on your mobo, as for the P5B-D, it actually sometimes changes NB strap when you run a lower multi than default IIRC.

It's been a while since i tested that out, but you can see the NB speed change in SiSoftSandra IIRC...anyway, try 9x395 maybe?

There's also a NB strap change at 400 MHz, so i know sometimes things get funny @ 400.
399 or 401 should work though.

Anyway though, you need to take the CPU out of the equation while you are testing out the RAM.
Worry about the CPU after you figure out what the RAM can do.

IOW, set 9x266 2:3 (DDR2-800), & then increase FSB as far as you can till the RAM starts acting up.
I never try maxing out RAM or even determining speeds with the CPU OCed to the max as well.

Once you see how far the RAM can get with the CPU at less than its max, then i'd figure out the RAM speeds/ratio/timings you want to run.

i have prime95 running 4 threads on ram at
cpu stock, ramd auto 800mhz

is it ok if i run prime95 on ram for 5-10 minutes before each change?

I'd say do what you like, but i'll tell you what i use for testing RAM during overclocking.

For small increasing increments, i use Memtest86+ test 5 first, then i reboot, apply a slighter higher FSB, retest Memtest86+ test 5, & repeat, etc.

If it passes test 5, it usually will pass the rest, at least for initial basic testing.

Then when i jump into Windows & run a few instances of HCI Memtest, four would be ideal for a quad.

HCI find errors far faster than P95 when you have a lotta RAM, though for 4 GB P95 Blend is still fine.
Once you get to 8 GB, P95 is a joke for stressing RAM, but i digress.

Generally 20% in HCI is good for initial testing, & then i'll reboot & do some more increasing in the bios, etc.

For final stability testing, i rely on P95 Blend for CPU/RAM (somewhat), & HCI for NB/RAM.

In your case, you can't tweak timings anyway with SPD enabled, so you can do this pretty fast.

Just see how high you can get w/ 9x multi 2:3...it should do DDR2-1000 at least unless you're getting really unlucky.

If we know it can do those speeds, then it's a matter of fine tuning things with the CPU overclocked.

I'm going to go ahead & guess you'll not get things stable @ 8x450 though.
Many newer mobos can't even run quads stably @ 450 MHz...i highly doubt the P5B-D is going to TBH.

Try things w/ 9x multi once you get to that point.

With SPD at auto, 9x285 2:3 (DDR2-855), vdimm @ 2.15 or 2.25v, NB @ 1.45v, you can't post or get anything stable?!

What does SPD timings set it to?
5-5-5-18?

If you're setting as i mention above, damn...that's just bad luck.

If not, try what i mention...those settings should work for pretty much 2x2 GB kit unless it's crap (or your mobo is being really picky).
What bios you using?

well i dont know if this will help but if you have not yet checked your vdimm it could be set too low, this board set my ram at 1.8 but for any balistix to boot u need 2.2 or you will be blue screening all over the place, other than that i would say rma man before its too late

thats what i tried exactly, yes thats the timings its using

1232
i was looking for modded bios a little bit ago to see if i could find a bios to get a higher number, but no results for that
