Why the Asus D2 over the prelude plz explain!

Just a heads up the HD555 lacks sparkle in the treble department !

benny, it may be due simply to availability and the price delta in the UK, the UK pricing system is way out of line with the American pricing models, and then the VAT on top simplyt amkes things multiple times as expensive as they are here in America (although I am unfamiliar with the Australian technology markets...) but both are good sound cards, although I, as you would prefer the prelude (swappable OP amps ftw )

I know you already decided on the Xonar, but I have the Razer headset and I personally find it incredible, though for some reason the mic doesn't work anymore.

I would have got the razer bundle but I have been told by multiple people that the Xonar and Prelude are in a different league compared to the barracuda AC-1 card.

I also want S/PDIF in and out. I decided on the Xonar simply because it is something apart from creative and in designed to compete with the Prelude.

It is also £30 cheaper.

Its £115 and appears to be the best card for playback and gaming I can buy. So why not?

Though if you are not going to swap the OPAMPs, the Xonar is just as good if not slight better at playback than the Prelude, plus the gaming advantage is largely nullified by Vista. Though it would be a completely different story if you were to swap in some OPA627s, but that also adds $50 to the price of the Prelude.

Either way you'll end up with one of the best general purpose sound cards. Do whatever your heart desires.

Well if I were to swap out parts on it, wouldn't I need some awesome speaker set up and external amps to take advantage of it?

I plan to get whats in my sig, but I reckon I am going to love the prelude compared to my Onboard.

Final Question: How much better are the HD595's than the HD555's?
