Mic problems- other person hears themself

I'm going to try explaining this as best as I can.
My girlfriend has a Plantronics Gamecom mic and she's talked to be through it before with no problems (she would test it and I would type back to her).
So, yesterday I bought myself a mic (Dynex).

I have Realtek, by the way. Version: 5.10.00.5268.
I have a Compaq () computer.

So, I set up my mic and all and when I talk to her, it's fine, I can hear her, she can hear me and no problems.
When SHE tries to talk, it plays back to her if it's more than 4 seconds long.

It's REALLY annoying .She can also hear some strange feedback coming from my end, which I do not hear.

I don't think that whenever I hear it my mic picks up what she says since it plays back whenever she's finished talking.

Can I fix this? Is there a setting somewhere so I can fix this?

We've figured out so far that when she has her mic in, and I don't, she can hear what's going on on my computer itself.

Example, I play a song on iTunes, she can hear it without my mic in, so it's obviously my computer playing back what it hears to her.
