5400+ brisbane capped at 3.0GHz - Page 4

hard to say. But I would make at least a 2 hours Orthos run. If it is not stable with in the 2 hours, bump the settings down and try again for another 2 hours. Do that before increasing the voltage.

also, get a validation link for us with CPU-Z

I have been searching on google and boy those are some finicky RAM sticks.

I mean they are seem touchy with timings from what I have read. Not good or bad really. My G.Skill DDR500 are the same way. If adjusted correctly to your motherboard they can run like champs and if adjusted incorrectly.. sometimes they won't run at all. But thats an easy fix by resetting the BIOS to default. There are been a number of times while tweaking my RAM I have not be able to post and had to reset the BIOS. There is nothing to be scared of when that happens. Sometime you can just pop the RAM out then reboot without the RAM inserted, then put the RAM back in and the BIOS will reset the RAM timing automatically so it will post again. There are a few ways around it.

As far as your Dad's RAM. You could try both sets and see which offers more stability.

EDIT: heading to work in a few, I'll try and get back later. Good luck!

that happened to me like 10 times already
i think i'll try to mess with the timing a little. good thing i can save the config in the bios. i actually managed to reach 3.45 but i didn't like it like that, felt that i would crash anytime. i actually have a cpuz picture to confirm too. anyway, i think i'll stick with the ocz, probably same performance. thanks for advise, everyone.

UPDATE: i went on orthos with 4-4-4-12 timing and got FATAL ERROR roundup 0.5 expecting less than 0.4 so i changed timing to 4-4-4-15 and so far running very stable for about half an hour. will try ram speed next and try to bump it up to 900MHz for RAM. i will be getting newer sticks, maybe corsair xms2 since they are very cheep now.

UPDATE 2: it stopped after 35:32 so now i changed the timing to 5-5-5-17

UPDATE 3: ok, i got to be extremely stable. i downclocked it to 3.177GHz at 667 it oced to 800MHz and the timing is 5-5-5-15. will work on the timing after i'm done with orthos, which is so far 2 hours in and no problem. oh, i also set the HTT to 4x, not that big of a deal.
