AMD 64 X2 6000+ woes

Well, I just built the rig in my sig. And today, I reseated the CPU heatsink with AS5, since I only had the white stuff from the cooler at the time. I think i may have gotten some of the white stuff onto the pins, or something, because when i went to reinstall the cpu, a few of the pins were very very slightly bent (took a few minutes of examination to catch it). I got the CPU in, and then after about an hour of playing WoW in a window, and IMing, I got a beep, screen flickered and it locked up.

Upon restart, I ran ATi tool for 15-20 minutes, no artifacts. Ok, so I ran Prime95. Temps were steady at ~55C under Prime95 (used Core Temp) and then after like 15minutes, it locked up again.

So, I think my little slip up might have killed my cpu...

Now, the few days I had it together before the reseat, the only problems with any kind of lockups were some VPU Recovers from the bad HD3870 I had, which I replaced with a 8800GTS, and have had no issues with at all.

So, going by the worst case scenario, having a little thermal paste (AS5 or the white stuff) on a pin, or having nudge a few (it was 3-4 pins) pins back probally killed me?

And, yes, I am still at all stock clocks.

I'm pretty sure if you would have gotten AS5 on the pins it would have an immediate effect. If it runs it most likely isn't bent pins. Try turning the cpu voltage up a bit.
Also that load temp seems a little high for having an after market cooler.

well thermal paste has some silver in it, so maybe while paste evaporated the silver made a connection between the pins (silver is good electrical conductor)?..dunno...wild guess.

I had a bad experience with one as well. One of my buddies built himself a new system a couple of weeks ago and the CPU came out of the box missing pins. They werent broke and they were in the packaging. Dont understand how it happened anyways he couldnt RMA the cpu so he bought another one. The second one came back perfect. The CPU doesnt even have what would remain if the pins were broke it was weird...

Hm, alright. Well, I tried to run Crysis since I just picked it up today. I played fine, no lag, all med settings, for the last hour. No lockups, no nothing. CPUID hardware monitor puts my temps at 48C & 53C at max. My CPU core voltage only deviated .1volt, its been at 1.4-1.39v. GPU temp max was 66C.

Heh, yea, for now. Im running Prime95 again. Ill update my post with how it goes.

Edit: Well, first test passed ok. Temps stable at 55-56C. Here's to hoping it was just windows being icky. Hopefully its not my RAM or mobo Update: Well, its still running strong. Temps still stable, no lockups. I think it might have been just windows...-shrug-

Edit2: Its been 8+ hours of Prime95. No lockups.

So, after a few days and 12+ hours of Prime95 with no lockups, I got another lockup. While playing WoW and IMing and whatnot again.

So, any ideas? I did the suggestion of upping the voltage slightly. HWmonitor had my CPU Voltage at 1.39v instead of the 1.4 it was supposed to be at. So I just upped it to 1.42v.

Funny thing is Crysis ran fine for an hour or two. and playing around with Prime95 had my temps higher, and CPU taxed more then the WoW n stuff did.
