8800GT on Pentium 4 2.8Ghz? (Bottleneck)

Would my P4 significantly bottleneck the 8800GT? If so, how could I lower the bottleneck?

Ouch... -_- Would it give better performance than the 8600 GT I have now, though?

It will give better performance, but the difference wont be as noticable.

I strongly recommend getting a cheaper core 2 duo processor and overclocking it, this will give you the performance increase you would like to expect between the 8600 and the 8800GT you now have.

You can pick c2d's up pretty cheap (some of the models)

I love the e6420 (Now discontinued =( ) Im running it at 3.4Ghz without a complaint from it.

whats the model of your mobo? Will it support a CD2? if you have at least a 945 chip with a bios flash you could drop in a E2180 and overclock to probably 2.6ghz maybe more

His performance would still be great. You make it sound like it would "suck" to have that combo. I honestly can't tell a difference except for ~5FPS @ 1680x1050 from my Pentium D 820 @ 2.8Ghz and my E2140 @ 3.2Ghz.
2 OP pls nerf

I have an Abit IP-95 with a Socket 775. It has support for Core 2 Duo.

Even if you're get not much of a performance gain fps wise, you could always pile on the AA, which is GPU dependent. But I'm with pook, lots of tests have proven just how little impact CPU upgrades have on gaming compared to GPU upgrades, here's one, although the slowest CPU they tested was still a Core 2 IIRC.
