is my motherboard bad?

Thread Starter
i got my new mobo in(asus p5n-d)and had a hell of a time getting that thing to boot up. now it only boots about half the time i turn it on.

well anyways once its on i ran a prime test overnight and it was perfectly stable, no errors at all and no overheating. when i try to access some programs the computer shuts off. i am now trying to reinstall windows and when it gets to the part where its installing devices, it crashes....everysingle time.

i really dont know what to do. i've spent a good 12 hours at least on this thing and it still shuts off/doesnt boot speratically.

Wecome to OCN Dus,
Your entire system shuts off when you load a program? or just the program crashes? Try doing memtest for like an hour or so. Or to be safe just run it for overnight.

First guess would be the PSU. That doesn't sound like a reliable brand.

i guess i dont know as much about computers as i thought cause i thought if a computer turned on at all, the psu was ok.

Are you overclocking at all? Put everything at stock when installing Windows.

im still having problems with booting!!!

half the time it starts up fine the other half theres no beep at all. This happens with it overclocked and stock clock.

would reflashing the bios fix this issue?? since i am just using the bios that came with it??

Manually set your memory timings. Also run memtest86 when it does boot.

DON'T flash the bios, unless your current bios doesn't support your processor.

Does it no longer have stability issues now that you've cleared the cmos?

If you have Nero you just burn an image. Once you've done that, boot off the cd and it will automatically start.
