Arch?! No GUI?

So, dangerousHobo and biatchi both use Arch and they sing it's prasies. Well, I just killed my Ubuntu (CURSE YOU KLEANSWEEP) and I was like, "Oh, I'll try Arch!" Well, I got through the installer (only installed the base package from a FTP/HTTP), but there is no GUI... is this what is supposed to happen? And if it is, how do I get a GUI? I don't know how to use pacman quite yet.

I can log into root and I've added a password. I've also created a non-root user. Now what? I'd like to get a GNOME desktop (I've used the three big ones and I like GNOME the best)

Yeah, if just installing the base, then there will be no gui.

Your are now going to need to install Xorg and then Gnome.

Guides:
Xorg
Gnome

Quick/basics:
pacman -Syu xorg
xorgconfig

that will do a basic configuration for xorg. You can install nvidia drivers and then run nvidia-xconfig then.

May still need to make a few modifications by hand to the xorg.conf file. Not sure how much experience you have with it, but if you have any questions just ask.

pacman -S gnome gnome-extra

You can add exec gnome-session to your .xinitrc if you plan to start xorg from the command line, else it should already appear in the list of available de/wm to use from gdm. Other then that I'm not sure if anything else is needed to get gnome set up. I've always used kde-mod on arch.

Thanks... I have almost no idea what any of that means, but I'll give it my best shot.

Xorg is the thing that lets you have Desktop Enviroments/Window Managers. On Arch you install it yourself (if you need it, most home users probably will), then your GPU drivers, and then a DE/WM (Gnome, KDE, XFCE, E17, ect).
