Getting Vista x64, a few questions.

So i am getting Vista home premium and a samsung spinpoint f1 1tb and 4gb of mushkin RAM.

1. I have heard something that you first have to install 2 gb ram, and install sp1 and then install the second 2 gb?

2. I have an old harddrive (250 gb) which has got xp installed, now i want to format it and connect it later so i can store some random stuff on it and keep the primrary stuff on the new harddrive, how do i do all this?

3. I have heard that when you get vista, the first thing to do is to disable something like sid or spd or something like that, where do i do that?

Thanx in advance!

1. Some people have a Bluescreen issue when installing vista with 4GB. Install it with 2GB, install the required hotfix then shut down and install all 4GB.

2. Connect the drive to your new build then during the Vista install, you will be given the option to format / partition your drives as you wish.

3. The only thing you may want to disable is something called UAC. This basically does not allow any system activities such as installing or running application unless you say yes. It becomes annoying and therefore some like to turn it off.

Hope that helped.

1. When I installed I had all 4GB's in the motherboard worked perfectly fine if it throws a hissy fit then you might have to take it out
2. What you want to wipe it now before you install Vista on your new one? You could install vista on you new hard drive then plug in you old one and format it within vista
3. Can you elaborate?

x64 bit is fine im running it even if i will never need it lol

it may come in handy someday and thats enough for me I would rather have it then end up needing it.

and i have had no problem running x32 bit apps in it even 3rd party ones like skin themes and rocketdock and stuff like that works fine

one you should look at
3D cube its sweet add like abilty to flip screens same effect as found on linux.

you disable by typing in "msconfig" (no quotes) in the search utility in the start menu.

Go to Tools, then laumch Disable UAC, then restart and you're good
