My build is better for a HTPC since it is quieter and 10-30w cooler. Also, yours can't do BluRay or 1080p.

So you want covered bays?

The Lian Li case has side mounted drives. You can get a drive cover that opens or mod a cover onto a drive door.
Once again...

yeah I would like covered bays firstly and then having them in the front would be a plus. But the side would be just as good I suppose. Where would I find a drive cover that opens?

Duckie, what hsf for that lian li?

I've rebuilt my HTPC a few times since november and I have finally suceeded with a nice budget HTPC build (I tossed the AM2/7050 combo out the window!) Here is something that runs REALLY nicely for the money (pure 1080P output at 15-35% CPU usage for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray on the same machine, and runs the rips nicely under software as well)

Intel E2180 CPU (2.0ghz OC to 2.6 or so) $69
Intel 945P MicroATX Board $59
LG HD-DVD/Blu-Ray Combo Drive $159
MSI ATI Radeon 3650 HDMI $49 (after MIR)
OCZ 2GB RAM $25 (after MIR)
Antec Fusion Case / 430w Earthwatts / VFC / IR $159
RF Keyboard with Joystick $39
Samsung Spinpoint F1 750GB SATA $99 (after coupon code)

TOTAL COST - $658 + SH

This beast will handle everything you throw at it, look sexy as hell, RF keyboard works without line of site, F1 750GB is huge and very fast, Radeon 3650 will even play new games decently (Same as 8600GT)

PS: I'm about to build an 8200 system with a 5000 BE cpu for a friend. Hopefully it will fair better then my damn 7050 did.

PS2: My current HTPC build is almost COMPLETELY SILENT. The MSI 9650 fan makes a little noise, but honestly my Mits HD projector is louder then the whole HTPC - lol. (Hell, my 50" HP Plasma buzzes louder then this HTPC!)

The 7100 onboard doesn't do hardware decoding of H.264. So I believe the E2180 can do BluRay decoding but it will probably take near 100% of both cores. A 780G/HD3200 and any X2 processor can do the same with 20%. In fact, you can get a 780G and any Sempron will do BluRay for noticably less money and heat. In addition, the 780G scores better on HQV.

7100 + E2180 = ~70w loaded.
780G + X2 (45w) = ~40w loaded

I really like that case....

I prefer black as my TV is a 56" big screen and it's also black as is my TEAC receiver... so I went with the ThermalTake Tenor case...very nice and spacious and fits a whole ATX board with plenty of room...has drive bay covers and has a door with in a door for easy of use or the media center option....

when it come to looks you just gotta find something you can live with...

for a other HTPC I went with a Silver Micro Fly case when they were on sale at Tiger Direct for only 29.99ea.

I really dig that avatar man....Lucky you to be in the presence of such beauty...

most cards are going to be the same height from the PCI-E slot to the top of the card...it's the length you have to worry about...

I would get the case first and then find the placement measurements for the cards fitment and go from there...

In the Micro-fly I have a 7600gt but to use the 9600gt I had to get the raidmax case I listed in my first post....

you also want to get a good idea on the case for a heatsink...the Micro-fly doesnt offer a whole lot of room while the raidmax allowed me to use a Zalman 9700 for my quad...

those are things to also consider in case purchase....will it fit the stuff I want to use....?

besides....find a case you really like and do your mod and paint it white...I am sure you could do a better finish than the off white cases come in...
