Need some temp explanations

Thread Starter
How can I get ambient temps? And what are these temps?

Speedfan shows temp1 = 42c but I don't know what that is. It spikes near 52c while running crysis. Temp 2 shows what realtemp does. Temp 3 shows -4c (what does that mean?). Temp1 cant be ambient because its always higher than my cpu temp.

Also I have 1 120mm exhaust fan and a 80mm intake front fan

ambient temp=room temp you would need an actual thermometer to check that. Also use real temp since an E7200 is 45nm cpu and real temp is more accurate for that. Speedfan can give some bad readings it reads one of my temps at 0c. Try using hwmonitor for your other temps and fan speeds http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php
that 52c reading is probably your video card temp

Ambient temps mean just the temperature of the air around your chip / heatsink / card / case / room. I personally use a digital thermometer around the outside of the front area of the case where my system gets its intake air from. Some people quote the room temp but this can vary significantly as to where the thermometer is (near floor / ceiling / window etc).

Realtemp shows the CPU core temperature. Speenfan can show varied sensor information including CPU case, CPU Core, Motherboard, NB, SB, HDD, GPU core, GPU memory, GPU ambient (and probably more) - all depending on type of system you have. You might have to match temperature readings you get from various software utilities to work out which is which in Speedfan. Try the utils you get with the motherboard as well as others like Realtemp, Everest, HWMonitor, GPU-Z, etc. etc. and work it out. You can then edit the Speedfan temperature labels so they make sense to you.

Any readings you get that are like 0, -ve or way +ve, are usually false readings from the software and sensors and should be disregarded.
