8800GT Heatsink removal

So, after removing my heatsink to apply some AS5, what greets me?

But only more Thermal paste around the green "PCB" area. Actually got most of it cleaned off besides for the nice smooth line of paste Nvidia left me by the edge. Is it safe to clean that area (using isopropyl) or just leave it as is (doesn't effect the card at all).

Clean it gently, just don't scrape the hell out of it trying to get it all out ...

I just left it there for now actually. It doesn't cause any hard to it does it (well, since I came across this one on [H]ard Forum, it doesn't look like it would )?

Sadly, the temps seem to be the same.

That picture in my second post isn't from my card. Mine wasn't that... extreme

I only cleaned my IHS and left the PCB around the GPU alone. I didn't know if the alcohol would hurt it nor so I said screw it.

Fan... 100%?

I leave it at 35-40% idle and 50% in games. I think the card maxes out at just under 60c (or used to with the stock paste). Just switched it today so didn't really test the max temp (what boredom does to you!).

Although temps are going up now from the weather as well. Used to idle ~45c and now it's ~52c at 40%.

wait a week as the thermal paste will have settled down.Myne dropted 12c on cpu after a few days.

Been 3 days and temps went up actually (reseated around 4 times). That... sucks. Oh well, another reseat coming!
yeah I never got the AS5 hype...I use it, but it alone never made one bit of difference for me temperature wise. It made me feel better though for some reason having that on the cpu/gpu
