SLI,X-Fire v/s single card.

With the way prices are dropping on hardware I was thinking about purchasing a couple of cards.
When researching sli set-ups I see alot of ppl saying dollar for dollar a single card would perform just as good.
Really the reason I started this thread was to get an idea of the current high-end cards v/s sli'd cards that provide similar results.

Example..... 2x8800gts(g80) would be similar to what single card?

Nothing, 2 8800gts' kick ass.

Honestly, the 9 series is really not that great. The new 4850's are looking very good though, refer to this: http://www.overclock.net/graphics-ca...on-4850-a.html

Yes 2 gts would be kick ass but some type of chart would be really helpful considering what ppl say about single v/s dual.

2 8800gt's cost around $$$. What single card in that price range would show similar results as the 2 8800gt's, or if I add another 256mb 8800gt to my PC what single card could reflect performance(also considering I have a 24" monitor and run at the highest resolution possible with all eye candy on). A chart would be great.

SLI is pretty much useless at resolutions 1600x1200 and below. Keep that in mind.

For $300 go for a 9600GT SLI config. It will blow the G80s away.
