Is this build any good, and do you have any suggestions?
I just tried to put something together real quick with a budget of about $700 without the monitor.

BTW, I don't really mind between AMD or Intel CPU, but for GPU, I'd rather have Nvidia.

Get the 640G version of that HDD in my sig, it's a good deal and more space, which also means faster.

Also why not 4G of RAM with how cheap it is?

I have the non-superclocked version of that GPU and love it. You may be able to save a few bucks in that area and put them into a board with more room to grow like the DFI, or maybe a better cooler. Don't just throw one together, take your time and get the most for your money, unless you are rich, in which case get my system with the UT version of the MB, a new audigy 4, 1200W PSU, water cooling, 3x ATI cards, and raid 5 using 1T drives, and an 80" DLP for a monitor . . Don't forget the Carver in wall THX stereo.

But that looks decent to me although I don't know anything about Biostar other than they are small enough to have great support and products.

Yea you can pick up an Audigy 2 Value for around $30, that will sound great, and do all you need unless you need alot of ports for midi and stuff.

The TA 770
FYI, its a bit finicky and boots rather slow but is a good mid range OCer... I know I have one with a 5000+ BE @ 3.2 even though the 5000+ BE hit the mid 3300 range on a Crosshair.
A TA770 MB dedicated post

The HSF you chose will likely get you by, but for a bit more you'll do far better with...

XPlagueX, are you planning on gaming or is this primarily for browsing the internet/checking email? Good choice on the Antec Earthwatts...I believe those are manufactured by Seasonic

Good luck with your purchases!

Optic, unless he has a 64-bit OS (or Win2K3 Ent) the 4GB of memory might be pointless to have.

Plague, what operating system do you plan on going with?

Welcome, XPlagueX to OCN

Mine is slightly over $700 w/o monitor.
You just need an OS, unless you want decent sound card.
I'm just giving my components according to your list.
  1. Case: same as yours http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119068 ($49.99)
  2. Mobo: DFI Bloodiron http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136038 ($114.99)
  3. CPU: E8400 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115037 ($189.99)
  4. GPU: Same as yours http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130319 ($169.99 after $10 rebate)
  5. HD: Seagate 250GB 16MB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148262 ($59.99)
  6. RAM: G.Skill 2X1 GB 1000MHz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231152 ($59.99)
  7. CPU Cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835154002 ($49.99)
  8. PSU: Corsair 550W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139004 ($89.99 after $10 rebate)
  9. Thermal Compound: Artic 5 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835100007 ($5.99)

Grand Total $730.92

Important Notes:
Things you should NOT change:
MOBO
CPU
Cooler
PSU (I think you can lower the Watts little bit)
Thermal Compound
RAM (anything 2GB 1000MHz or better is fine)

Good Luck

Edit: OOPsy, it was an AMD thread. Well E8400 is good CPU.
