Thread Starter
i recently been trying to reinstall vista from my ide on to my sata drive, i wiped both drives, but for some reason when i was on the vista install menu the installer couldn't find the sata drive, i decided to remove my ide to see if this made a difference, and now my ide wont show up aswell as my sata so now i have nothing, both drives are shown in the bios, and raid is disabled does anyone now what i can do? thanks

Check the bios and make sure that your SATA controllers are set to IDE mode. There's also another option in there you should look for. I had to do it on mine to get it to work right for my Vista install. Also, if you're not using RAID, turn it off. If you're using RAID, make sure your SATA drive is listed in an array by itself.

Usually you don't but just in case, download the SATA drivers or load it from the motherboard CD and put it on a flash drive and then when the Vista installation loads, load the driver from your flash drive and see if it recognizes then.

The only time you need drivers fir HDD's is when you set up a RAID array and even then vista will load the appropriate drivers on its own (usually)

iv tryed the motherboard cd and i had found the drivers but, all of them dont do anything, it says there nothing to do with the device, but they must mean somthing as all of them have like Sata or ide in there name :S, could it be windows wipe? could the drives need a proper wipe tool?

Have you tried formatting the drive using the manufacuter's formatting tool first? Have it run diagnostics as well and see if it gives up any errors.

If BIOS recognized the SATA HDD, but if you have unplugged the IDE HDD, and still nothing for Vista Installation, neither something is messed up in BIOS (Recommend Loading Defaults and just go through to make sure SATA is enabled and etc...) , and see if that makes a difference.

If not, then something is wrong with the HDD. Ive experienced HDD's that can be recognized in BIOS, but unable to write / see the HDD in Windows or during a new load of O/S.
