Help! E8400 not booting on P5N-E - Page 2

run cpu-z and find out which bios you have. You should be ok with the 0901 or at less update it to 0803 to support your chip.

LOL my bios version is 0307. Eeek...

My main question about updating the BIOS is... umm... is there any way to do it without a floppy drive? Lol..

Did your mb come with a windows software cd so that you can update it though windows. Some people don't like to do it that way but I always have and haven't had a problem yet.
you can down it from the site. I think it the ASUS Update V7.09.02 Install Program for Windows 2000/XP/2003 and Windows 64bit XP/2003

I know been lucky so far.

Your can put the bios on a usb flash disk and use the bios update from the bios itself.

NO MATTER WHAT METHOD YOU FLASH BIOS WITH, SET YOUR BIOS TO DEFAULT..NO OVERCLOCK.

Yes that needed to be yelled, 9 times out of 10 if your overclocked the bios will fail and you will have a paper weight. I have used Asus, gigabyte, and evga's windows updates with no problems. Its up to you, I prefer the floppy update personally.

I just don't have a FDD, so I have to use a USB. And my cpu is all underclocked and at default now because I reset the CMOS. Thanks

EDIT: Okay, all updated to 0901. Going to put new CPU in now. Thanks for all the help so far guys!

EDIT EDIT: ALL DONE! Now running my E8400. Thanks so much guys! Such a noob mistake

Time to get this baby to 4ghz...
