Volts Question: E8400 to 4GHz. - Page 3

Tried 4.0 at 1.36v , not stable at all. Back to the drawing board. And whats better for memory performance , tighter timings , or higher frequency. I Dont think my memory will do 4-4-4-12 @ 1041. Thinking about dropping the multiplier getting more frequency.

It depends, really, but I think the consensus is that higher MHz is better, except for in very select situations.

I'm having a hard time overclocking my e8400 also. It seems no matter many setting I put it at, I can't get it stable. I know its not my ram, I've tested it at factory setting and primed it for a few hours. I just don't know what to do at this point.

Does anyone know the stock setting for my CPU vcore, the MB's NB, SB, and HT? Maybe if I get an answer there I have something to work with.

yep. My E8400 sucks...it takes like 1.4v to get 100% stable at 4 GHz and anything beyond that is out of reach. You guys say stick with 1.36v but i am running mine @ 1.4v 24/7 @ 4 GHz and i don't see what the big fuss is about. Max temp=57C which is far away from the max.

hmmm...

I bought me my 8400 just so I could rock the 4GHz club membership...

I seem to be in the same boat though, she'll boot to 4005 (9x445) no prob, but doesnt last one calculation with orthos. (super pi in 11 sec tho haha)

Highest I've attempted in BIOS was 1.4125 which resulted in a max Vcore of 1.385 (didn't sit there for long at all)... right now I'm a 3.825 @ 1.32v and orthos been running for 20mins...

If I have to, I'll blow this processor up . I bought it for 4GHz, and if I can't have it, I'll throw my e6420 back in... I'll keep you guys posted on the status...
