9600GT SLI Epic Fail!

Thread Starter
Hey guys, new to post, but I've been reading these forums for the past few months in preparation to buy a machine capable of wreaking havoc in AoC. I'm not sure WTH is going on, but I'm having some serious issues with 9600GT's in SLI. My system specs are as follows:

CPU: E8400 Wolfdale OC'd to 3.825ghz (overnight prime95 stable)
MB: MSI p7n diamond 780i @ 1700mhz FSB (425mhz base)
Mem: 4gb (2x2gb) OCZ Reaper 1066 mem clocked at 850mhz (1:1) @ 4-4-4-12-1T timings.
GPU: 2 x MSI N9600GT 512M OC GeForce 9600 GT 512MB in SLI

The computer is fast as hell, but I should think my frame rate should be better playing AoC. I ran 3dmark06 and my results were this horrible:

P3806 3DMarks
CPU Score 7588
Graphics Score 3264

I have never run SLI before, so I might be doing something wrong, but I have the link cable plugged and installed the most recent published Nvidia drivers. According to the software I am in SLI, and I haven't pulled one of the cards to test it individually.

Has anybody seen anything like this before? ANY help would be appreciated. I am a bit of a newbie at OCing as I haven't done it in like 10 years, but I am very careful to watch my voltages and temps. I would expect this system to break 15,000 on 3dmark06, so this has me COMPLETELY stumped!

Thanks!

your 3dmark06 results are hard to understand, can you post a compare link? I would agree with your system you should be above 15k.

Also, welcome to OCN posting! If you could take a minute to go to the userCP and edit your system it will help us help you.

Looks like you're reporting a 3dmark Vantage score--right? That's why the score number looks so low, and why there's a P in front of the score--seems like you didn't run 3dmark06, right? If you really are reporting a Vantage score, then it seems about right.

What are your fps (either with fraps or some other fps counter) in-game? Also, what resolution are you playing at, and what detail settings? 'Cause that'll affect a lot of performance results.

I updated my system specs. Thanks for the welcome!

Here's a link, and yes, it was Vantage 3dmark06:

http://service.futuremark.com/home.a...&resultType=19

The reason this looks way off to me is how low I rank compared to comparable systems. This is the first time I have run any graphics tests, so I was kind of in the dark as far as which version I used and all that. Is that really an acceptable result for SLI?

Edit: In AoC I have everything maxed just to test out the system and I'm usually between 30 and 70 fps. When I took it out of SLI the difference was negligible. I know they are still working out all the bugs and the game does not "officially" support SLI although it can be forced through Nvidia's software, so I'm not terribly surprised at that. However, Some people have reported significant increases with SLI and I'm a bit jealous.

I don't know too much about vantage as I'm still on xp. Consider running 3dmark06 though on the standard settings as it's more widely used and it's results are easier to interperet.

There is not such thing as Vangence 3DMARK06. There is 3DMARK Vangence and 3DMARK06.
Looking at the score @ 3DMARK Vangence it looks like you have only one card running. You should be getting like 7k point i think in SLI.

Your PSU might be a limiting factor, I'm not sure but it's got 22A on both +12V1&2 for a combined total of 32A.

I would still like to see a 3dmark06 run as I don't know anything about vantage. There might be someone on here today that could tell you about your vantage score.
