9600GT SLI Epic Fail! - Page 3

Im sure some of the PSU savvy people could help you pick out a solid PSU which will be perfect for your build and upgrades. I know the HX550 is a popular choice. I happen to really like the OCZ gameXstream and stealthXstream series.

My gameXstream PS should arrive tomorrow and I'll know if the power was a problem or not. You should be okay with that Corsair on a 750i board with the setup you have. I'm assuming you have everything set up correctly in the bios (if there is an SLI option) and the Nvidia control panel, but is the hardware linked and detected? Have you run 3dmark06 with and without SLI to confirm what you are seeing in game? This is getting me nervous, but I've heard of people running SLI with 9600GT's and getting great results. Hopefully it's not an MSI issue.

One other thing you might try is swapping the slots. I don't know if it's an issue with the Platinum board, but my Diamond supposedly had an issue with using one blue slot and one white slot prior to bios v1.1. Apparently you had to run SLI from the two blues or you would suffer a significant performance decrease from even running a single card. Your v1.1 came out in February, so if you haven't flashed since then you may want to consider it.

Yeah, no offense, but my system should be owning all over that score considering the specs. Hopefully this 700W PS swap will do the trick. I'll keep you all posted.

Looking at the score @ 3DMARK Vangence it looks like you have only one card running. You should be getting like 7k point i think in SLI.

UPDATE: So I got my OCZ GameXstream PS and wrestled with my case for a couple hours. Booted up fine, SLI is enabled (just as it is before), and there is zero difference in AoC between having SLI enabled and having it disabled. I turned on the visual indicator and it definitely is working, but supposedly AoC does not yet support SLI anyways. Hopefully in the future I'll see a significant improvement after DirectX 10.0 is enabled in game. I am just wondering how some people are reporting 80-90% fps gains by enabling SLI with AoC...unless they are full of $hit.

I downloaded and installed 3dmark06 and ran 16,830 with SLI, and 11,300 or so without, so that tells me it is certainly enabled and is definitely making a difference. How does this compare to what you guys see as far as scores for a similar setup?

The good clean wholesome voltage also appears to be helping with my overclocks. I was able to bump up my FSB from 425 to 450 at a 9.0 multiplier to increase my CPU to 4.05ghz. I had to change some other GTL and termination voltages a bit, but I actually am able to reduce my vcore and NB voltages significantly and still run stable! Is this normal on a good power supply or was I just needing to bump my GTL's and terminations in the first place? Can you over do it with those voltages? None of them go red as you get them to the maxes. The only downside to the OC was the necessity to loosen up my memory timings from 4-4-4-12-T to 5-5-5-15-1T. BSODs were flying all over the place until I did. Even still I was BSOD/rebooting until I bumped up those other voltages.

So ultimately, I don't even know if the PS was an issue or not because you can only run Vantage once in trial mode so I was not able to pull one of the cards and retest. It could have been that Vantage was not recognizing my SLI setup for some reason. I don't really want to pay the $20 or whatever just to verify what 3dmark06 has already told me: That my SLI is working fine.

I can't wait to OC those cards more once AoC supports both!
