I would buy the GTX 260 if you do decide to go with the new GTX cards. I would buy the cards from Robilar if you decide on a pair of GTS'.

"The GeForce GTX 280 will be about 25 percent faster than the 260.." that quote alone puts things into perspective. Why would I pay $10 for every 1% difference. ($250 price difference from stated msrp)

Here are the specs.
-GeForce GTX 280: 602MHz GPU, 240 shaders, 1296MHz shader processors, 1107MHz memory, 1GB memory, 512-bit memory bus, 141.7GB/s memory bandwidth, 48.2 billion/s texture fill rate

-GeForce GTX 260: 576MHz, 192 shaders, 1242MHz shader processors, 999MHz memory, 896MB memory, 448-bit memory bus, 111.9GB/s memory bandwidth, 36.9 billion/sec texture fill rate.

Why pay $450 for the 260GTX when you can get two 8800GTS 512s that perform much better for only $420?

He has an SLI board....besides, quad GPU doesn't scale that well for the price.

I have a pretty good answer to the title of this topic
Kill the one you sold your cards to, then sell them again, and kill that person again. Continue this routine until you have enough money for 2 GTX280 !

BTW.. Getting a girlfriend is free, but maintaining your relationship won't be

Anyway, I would get an 9800GX2. You can always upgrade to Quad-SLi and when drivers get better I'm sure it'll do wonders

When will the GX2 drivers get better?

The card is going to be phased out now that the new series is out. Mhill tried everything except voodoo to get good performance out of his pair of GX2's with only limited success.

If you recall the 7950GX2's were a huge bomb for the same reason. the 8800gtx came out and made the card redundant.

We keep saying that performance will improve once the drivers get better but I have seen very little to justify this overly optimistic statement.
