I am torn on what to do? I have google, used the search box, and did some number crunching. I guess i just have to ask, what do you guys think?

*EDIT*
I dont really care about the cost difference.
and i would be running everything at 1920X1200

I have read conclusively that Quad SLI is epic fail for the money. I will dig out some numbers for you. But if you feel the need to get a GX2, just get one for gods sake, lol.

Yes my intent would be only one 9800gx2 possible down the road a year if they got drivers working well maybe a second.
I guess bottom line is i am looking for top quality cards in th 400-500 range.

Ah, running at 1,920x1,200 you will see the best benifit.

SLI Vs. a single card:

FPS's - 23% faster. (Than a single card)
Driving - 12% faster.
RTS's - 47% slower.

Combined. 7% faster. (But ofc, if RTS's aren't your bag, the percentages look more favourable.)

Running at 1,650x1,080.

SLI Vs. a single card:

FPS's - 3% faster.
Driving - 8% faster
RTS's - 51% slower.

Combined. 7% slower.

The tests were done in-game, using FRAPS 4xAA and 2xAA, with a mix of high and very high for the test games - ARMA: Armed Assault, CoD4, CoH: Opposing Fronts, Crysis, Colin McRae: DIRT, NfS: Pro Street, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Supreme Commander And Team Fortress 2.

Source, July 2008 Custom PC Magazine.

I don't know if this is any good to you, I found it quite informative. But if you have a monitor over 22" you seem to get the best results from the GX2 SLI'd. Hope this was useful.

slightly confused, your numbers dont have cards associated with them, and at the end you say gx2 sli'ed, which is not at all what i want to do. that would be 900 dollars worth of cards, and everyone knows quad sli sucks currently. do you have a link to the article?
Thanks
