I bought the 80GB bundle, and after playing through the first act of MGS4, and watching I Am Legend on Blu Ray, both on a 1080p LG TV, I have decided it was absolutely worth every penny. Not only that, but you can download HD Movie Trailers for free, game demos for free, full games for fairly cheap, free online, a great Media Center functionality, you can install Linux on it, Bluetooth capability, the ability to even surf the internet and print (which, with Linux and Openoffice, makes a PC almost unnecessary), Folding @ Home, easily upgradeable Hard Drives, and some great games out now, and on the horizon.

In my eyes, the PS3 trumps the 360 in terms of stretching beyond the scope of gaming, and also in terms of graphics and games. I know, I know, a lot of PS3's best games are on 360, too. But MGS4 isn't, and Halo, IMHO, is not on the same tier of game as MGS4. If you want the best top to bottom experience, and especially if you have an HDTV, then the PS3 is the way to go, for sure.

im resisting getting into a 360 vs ps3 debate (everybody should be happy!)

ill say this tho, i did say i that i liked the 360 because of the online gaming, yes the ps3 has free online gaming. maybe if i had never owned my 360, i would like how the ps3 handles online gaming. maybe when they update the firmware so that you have in-game XMB i will feel totally different about online gaming with the ps3. that update is expected to be coming very soon btw.

my only advise is try and get a hold of a ps3 that has backwards compatibility

By the looks of it the posters in this thread seem to be mature, so I doubt there will be a heated debate. Although putting across opinions never hurt anyone. Sadly, I wouldn't hold your breath for the 'Home' feature for PS3. It seems to be one of them so close yet so far away situations, there still isn't a set date I don't think.

Personally, the thing you hate about PSO is the thing I love I love how it is simple to use, no bloated graphics and pictures or anything. Just click 'play multiplayer' and away you go. I won't comment on the immature XBL users as PSO is also riddled with them, sadly this is something we will never escape.

The backwards compatibility thing is a bit wary. Depending on how much you are willing to pay for one, they seem to be a bit rare these days. With that said it might be cheaper to just buy a used PS2 if you don't already own one, I kept my PS2 for that single reason that it wasn't worth chasing down a discontinued PS3 and paying over the odds. But if you look hard enough you will find one for the right price.

In my personal opinion I still stand with the fact that maybe the Op should try the 360 before he leaps into a PS3. They offer a boat load more games and are less of a financial investment, then if you like what you see you can get a PS3 down the line have have the best of both worlds.

I got a PS3 on the 12th and I've been enjoying it alot. I can play sweet games, watch Blu-ray's on my monitor, fiddle with linux if I want. The controllers are really nice, if the battery runs out (it doesn't all that often) I just plug the controller in and keep playing while it recharges (which doesn't took long at all, maybe 30 minutes). Compared to my brother's 360 where he has to have three sets of rechargable batteries (that he had to buy) which he cycles to keep up with the 360's controller's power hungry nature. I also like the PS3 dashboard alot more than the 360's, its not nearly as intrusive, its simple and staight forward, and there are no ads. My brother pays for XBL, why should he have to put up with ads? I don't even pay for Sony's online servive, and there are no ads. Next patch (2.4) the PS3 will probably get in-game XMB fuctionality, and games will be able to easily include custom music. The PS3 also has a internet browser which I can use to download mods for UT3, and other stuff. The PS3's game selection is still pretty awesome, and I enjoy it alot more than my brother's 360 games. The PS3 is also a pretty hardy system, my brother is on his third Xbox and he sees it as routine now, he gets to use his Xbox for 3/4 of the time, but every once in a while it will break down and take a month to send it in and get it back.

Games for the PS3 include (exclusives in bold):
MGS4
GTA4
TES:Oblivion
Burnout Paradise
Rock Band
COD4
Resistance: Fall of Man
Ninja Gaiden: Sigma
Rainbow Six Vegas 2
Unreal Tournament 3
DiRT
Tekken 5: Dark Ressurection
GRID
Devil May Cry 4

Games coming out for PS3 (exclusives in bold):
Battlefield: Bad Company
Street Fighter IV
Resident Evil V
Final Fantasy XIII
God of War 3
Grand Turismo 5
Mirror's Edge

Sorry if I sound a bit fanboy-ish at times, I like my hardware to work, and I hate being nickle & dimed.

Don't forget Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. If you liked the previous in the series, you'll love the first one for the PS3.

your opinion is extremely biased lol, you dont like to be nickle and dimed? so you play your ps3 with the composite hookups? or did you instantly go buy another cable to allow you to benefit from the HD?

this isnt a thread about ps3 > 360, lets not take it down that road. the OP asked about ps3s, thats it.

heres why i dont game on my ps3-

the online gaming is lacking, horribly. when your in a game (depending on that game) you cant see what friends you have online. you cant message anybody. to play a game with your friends, you have to get together at the XMB and coordinate whos going to start the match and how are the others going to find your match. when your in a game and a friend gets disconnected (or you all do) you have to rinse and repeat the coordination.

there is no standard on headsets. not all bluetooth headsets work 'perfectly' on the ps3. its very hit and miss. not everybody has a headset (which is partially nice) but when your friends dont have a headset it really sucks. some BT headsets have serious connectivity issues with the ps3, lots of static, cutting out, and flat out not working. you dont know what headsets will work for you until you buy one and try it, good luck!

when i got my ps3, i really tried to phase out my 360 because a lot of the games are the same, they both have their exclusives so that pretty much balances out. but once i actually tried gaming online with the ps3 i quickly canceled my preorders and sold my games. i do own some good ps2 single player games to play around with and i do use the ps3 as my BD player so i cant say its a total waste of money. however i dont think that the ps3 is the best gaming system available, its actually 3rd out of 3 in my opinion.
