You can run SMP and GPU at the same time. Your SMP will be slowed though. Best thing is to set GPU priority to low, and SMP to idle, that way the GPU gets what it wants, SMP takes the rest.
For refence, my GPU client uses about 12%-14% of CPU, rarely hits down to 7% and rarely hits up to 22%
