Is The TRUE BackPlate Self-Adhesive?

Thread Starter
I've got a TRUE backplate holding my Fuzion v2 on, and i'm planning on lapping my Q6600, but don't want to remove the motherboard (as then I have to remove the chipset watercooling which i put on with nuts and bolts that will get lost if i just undo them)

So the question is, I take off my Fuzion, is there adhesive on the backplate holding it on, or will it just fall down the back of the motherboard. I can't for the life of me remember if that thing has anything holding it on!!

Yes it does. At the middle square of thebackplate there is like 1mm thick black foam with an adhesive layer. Afer having the TRUE used and mounted for a while, that backplate really sticks hard to the board.

I have been moving to another board and had to actually seriously rip off the backplate from me old Asus SE (680i) to get it moved to my next board. Unfortunately the adhesive stuck so hard that part of it remained on the board, the foam layer was ripped apart. I then simply used multilayer tape after having removed the remaining foam from the backplate just to cover the metal.

Now however, my backplate won't stick any more obviously

It really seems to be intended for one-time use. So yeah, if you stuck it on for the first time, the backplate sits firm against the board and you can reseat without worries.

It should still remain in place, the nuts protrude into the MB holes so it can't go anywhere.

I was wondering about that, but thought the standoffs might be longer than the nuts, giving it a chance to slip out..

I dont recall the true having and adhesive, mine had a black pad, with a clear plastic over it, lol, was I supposed to remove that?

as for the screw uprights, they were taller than motherboard standoffs, even the extra tall ones iirc

Maybe that was an older TRUE? Mine had a rectangular piece of foam in the middle, which had a peel-off cover, the foam had a sort of adhesive under that peel-off cover.

Yes, there is an adhesive foam rectangle thing that goes on the backplate. It is very sticky. I actually removed it and placed it on my new motherboard and it still stuck pretty well.
