e8400 or q6600: Is the performance difference signigifant? - Page 2

Go for the E8400 if you just gaming. I don't understand whats with this "Q6600 future-proofing" Nahelm is around the corner and it is very hard to future-proof in the tech world period. IIRC games (except for maybe SUPCOM and some RTS) don't truly use Dual-cores to the max. Its all essential threads on Core 0 and the dump any non-essential threads (music etc) on Core 1.

The Q6600 or any Quad are in a world of there own now as Games and programs are starting to use the quad core. one i know that does is the New GRID game. I would get a Q6600 because a lot of stuff is now using all the cores
