Dying 8800GT

Thread Starter
Okay, my sig rig with my XFX 8800GT alpha dog will get like a 12500-13200 on 3dmark 06. I have posted a few times about tearing during halo 1 and what not and some driver issues...

So i decided to put this card in my HTPC to test it with halo 1 and 3dmark 06. Halo 1 still tears no matter the clocks or fan speed. and i score a 6384 in 3dmark 06... heres where its funny, my 7950gt would get me a 5200 in 3dmark 06. thats only a 1000 pts less.... So it the card failing or what...

HTPC specs
Dell xps 400
pentium d 840 3.2ghz
corsair xms2 675mhz ram 2gb
sata hd.

nothing wrong with your 8800gt, its all cpu related, Pentium D is at least 2~3 generations behind the C2D in your sig rig...and your motherboard probably doesnt take advantage of the pci-e 2.0 which would bottle neck the card, as others have mentioned

Last time i heard, i thought most modern day cards didnt come close to needing the bandwith of pci-e 2.0. Could be wrong tho

Try the 7950GT in your sig rig and watch how little the score rises.

maybe tearing is a halo problem? ive run halo on my notebook with an 8600M and i get tearing regardless of quality or res, havent tried it on my desktop tho...why not put the 7950 into your rig and see if halo still has the same problems?
