New router will not get info from cable modem

Thread Starter
OK, I just got a wireless router and am trying to get it to work. I have reset it to default a few times and can't seem to get it to communicate with my modem. When I connect the modem and one PC, I go into the settings and make sure it is set to dynamic etc. When I hit DHCP refresh, all the values remain 0's. I tried many different settings with no luck. The newer one is slightly different than my old one, so I can't just copy everything. I am running out of options.

edit: FYI It is a WRT54GS with DD-WRT

Have the router clone the mac address of your computer, and make sure the modem is plugged into the internet/port 5 (the one that is separate from the others) on your router.

You may have to manually enter the MAC address of your old router in instead of cloning your computers MAC.

There are a couple of things you need to do.

Reset the router, the cable modem, and anything in between the router and your PC.

In the Basic Setup, Under Router IP put this for the following info.

Local IP: 10.10.10.1 or 192.168.1.1 (those are private address)
Subnet mask: 255.0.0.0 or 255.255.255.0 (respectively for each address)
Gateway: 10.10.10.1 or 192.168.1.1
Local DNS: Leave blank unless you have a DNS server in your network.

Under DHCP:
DHCP Type: DHCP Server
DHCP Server: Enable
Max UsersL Set to anything you want

Mac Clone:
You don't need to, but try it.

Under Advanced Routing:
Make sure it is set to gateway.

If none of that works, I would suggest you reset the router back to Linksys firmware, and then follow the instructions again to the t on upgrading to dd-wrt again.

U should've bought the GL version. Much cheaper on the EGG, and luvs 3rd party firmware. Settings allow 4 GS capabilities. BTW, yeah revert firmware and make sure u flash w/the (3rd) mini version, since the memory is so small on the new GSs. And reboot.
