PC Power and Cooling is not noisier than most other PSUs. When the fan is at full RPM, it's louder, because it's an 80mm, not 140mm like other PSUs. The 80mm is more reliable though

I'm getting very different numbers between the asus site and the extreme ps calc. Maybe I'm not using them right. From what I understand the 9800 gtx or 4870 can draw close to 300w. If I decide to go ati, I may consider adding a second down the road for a crossfire setup. That would be 600w just for the gpu's. In both calc's I used 4 ddr2 sticks, 2 gpu's (3870 in extreme calc, and 9800 on asus site), 2 hd's, 1 dvd-rw, 1 floppy, 1pci + 1 add'l, 1 usb, 1 firewire, 1 fan conroller, 4 fans. I came up with ~650 on the extreme ps calc, and 850 on asus site.
That seems like a very big difference. What am I doing wrong? Can you reccommend what size ps I need?

Thanks again for all the help. Every time I feel like I'm almost at the end, something seems to come up!

Alright, I looked everywhere in internet trying to compare and cut down prices much as possible.

Here it is friend,

Grand Total: $1223.89 w/o GPU

Some are from buy.com and others are newegg products. You don't have to worry about shipping for buy.com(all Free) but newegg charges you. I think 750W is enough for future 3way SLI, but someone can confirm that. Only thing I recommend upgrading is CPU to Q9450, because this is the only outdated (maybe I'm going to far because Q6700 is awesome OC CPU I heard) product. Or you can just degrade the CPU to E8400 as well.

Edit: Also, I wouldn't go for 9800 GTX because I heard ATI 4750 is cheaper and better.

The 4870 is going to consume between 90w and 140w. This is my assumption based on power draw of the 4850. It really depends on how much power GDDR5 takes. The 9800GTX uses 150w or something like that, probably a bit less since the 9800GX2 uses 200w.

i read this on a magazine that reached my doorstep around 1-2 weeks ago (suppose to be this month issue) and i apologize for saying "most P45 boards was having difficulties achieving over 450mhz FSB" because the P45 boards from gigabyte were able to push to 550mhz (or more). though i also did a small update search on the P5Q and find that the magazine is a bit outdated now

if anyone is interested i have also included the page from which i read the news from:

According to this article the 4870 could draw 300w max. 9800gt could draw 225w max.
http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/37881/135/

I think the asus site is using these numbers in it's calc.

I just read the comments on the article about the numbers not making sense. Sorry I missed that earlier.

I assure you, the HD4870 isn't that much different than the HD4850. The 4850 doesn't draw more than 120w. That article is outdated. The 9800GTX+ will use less power because it is the same core on a smaller process. The 9800GTX uses less than 150w. TDP IS NOT POWER CONSUMPTION. TDP = Thermal Dissipating Power. This is the maximum the GPU will put out in heat. My QX9650 is rated for 125w TDP, but only uses 80ish watts of power at stock.

I'm thinking the pcp&c silencer 750. Will hold out for 4870. May get a 4850 interim. Now I'm debating switching to an x48 mobo for future crossfire.

Thanks again to all for the help.

I am now torn between the p45 p5q deluxe and the x48 rampage formula. I like the p5q for it's design and what I think will be easy oc'ing. I like the x48 for it's 2x pcie x16 slots for future crossfire with the 4870. I have troulble finding info on oc'ing the rampage board on air past 4gz and xfire benchmarks. Another thought is to go with the p5q and then do a 4870 x2 if/when they arrive. Price diff on the 2 are about $80. Any thoughts?
