Overclocking the SB 750 ??!!

Although I just got a great new board, I too am excited to hear about the new generation of AMD southbridges that are supposed to unlock 400Mhz for these new Phenoms.

Here is the real topic of this thread

Will these new boards be able to Overclock any higher than the current boards like the SB 700's? Or are they made to get more speed those who do not? Nobody will know until they are out, but I'd like to see a good discussion on this.

From what has been posted on the net about the SB750 Mobo's yes you should be able to OC bit higher with better stability. I wouldn't expect magic thou. 99% of the OC will still depend on your skill.

I'm just wondering if heat will be as much of an issue if its the same CPU at higher speeds, and if it will give the CPU more voltage to support those speeds, see my point?

I'm just skeptical of this whole Unlocking thing. It sounds like a marketing ploy to me. I hope I'm wrong, but I just have a feeling that instead of it being an Unlock, it's more like an auto Overclock built into the board.

Have there been similar situations in the past where a new SB automatically made a chip faster?

I don't think it's an auto-overclock, but then again I do not have one to say for sure. If it adds stability...can't be that bad thou

The heat issue is with the Phenom it's self. I don't think the Mobo is going to have all that much say in how the Phenom handles the heat. There maybe less heat thou if the SB750 is in fact helping run stable voltage control.
